Mentioning that the more research is needed for boosting quality agricultural production, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Thursday said the age limit of agricultural researchers will be eased and they will be given incentives for the sake of intensive research.
She made the remarks while unveiling the cover of ‘100 Agricultural Technology Atlas’ published by the Bangladesh Agricultural Research Council.
The prime minister also underscored the need for establishing regional research laboratories for boosting the production.
She said the Awami League government took various steps after assuming power in 1996 for the development of the agriculture sector. “As a result, Bangladesh attained food autarchy in 1998.”
Sheikh Hasina said Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman initiated the development of the agriculture sector in Bangladesh. “He put importance to agriculture as he realised that Bangladesh’s economy relies on it. He gave agriculturists the first class status.”
