An oil-carrying train derailed at Maizgaon in Fenchuganj upazila of Sylhet early Friday, snapping rail communications of the district with the rest of the country.
Eight wagons of the Sylhet-bound train from Chattogram veered off the tracks at Bealibazra near Maizgaon Railway Station around 12am, said Senior Assistant Mechanical Engineer of Kulaura Railway Station Dulal Chandra Das.
Some 1.6 lakh litres of diesel were also damaged.
The derailment suspended the rail communications on Sylhet-Dhaka and Sylhet-Chattogram routes.
On information, two relief trains rushed in from Kulaura and Akhaura to salvage the derailed bogies.
It might take the whole day to salvage the derailed bogies, sources said.
A five-member probe committee has been formed to look into the incident.
