Covid-19: Mass vaccination begins in Bangladesh

Bangladesh began the mass rollout of Covid-19 vaccine across the country on Sunday.

Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque inaugurated the vaccination in the morning.

A total of 2,402 teams are working at 1,015 hospitals throughout the country. Of them, there are 206 teams in 50 hospitals in the capital.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), around 3.28 lakh people have registered through website www.surokkha.gov.bd as of Saturday for the vaccination.

Only registered people can take the vaccine at the vaccination centres from 8am to 2:30pm.

Bangladesh has a plan to inoculate 35 lakh people against the virus in the first phase.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the nationwide coronavirus programme on January 25 when 26 front-line fighters took the jab.

The following day, another 541 front liners received the coronavirus vaccine.
