Health and Family Welfare Minister Zahid Maleque has said the Covid-19 vaccination will continue throughout the year.

He made the disclosure while inaugurating the countrywide vaccination on Sunday morning.

The minister opened the inoculation from the Directorate General of Health Services at 10am.

He described the vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca and manufactured by the Serum Institute of India as the safest one.

Zahid Maleque called for not resorting to any criticism and rumours over the vaccine.

He also said people’s confidence in the vaccine will get boosted as ministers and other VIPs are taking the jab.

A total of 2,402 teams are working at 1,015 hospitals throughout the country. Of them, there are 206 teams in 50 hospitals in the capital.

According to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), around 3.28 lakh people have registered through website www.surokkha.gov.bd as of Saturday for the vaccination.

Only registered people can take the vaccine at the vaccination centres from 8am to 2:30pm.

Bangladesh has a plan to inoculate 35 lakh people against the virus in the first phase.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the nationwide coronavirus programme on January 25 when 26 front-line fighters took the jab.

The following day, another 541 front liners received the coronavirus vaccine.
