Two Rohingya Yaba traders were killed in a gunfight with members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) in Naikhonchhari upazila of Bandarban district early Monday.
The deceased were identified as Jobayer, 28, son of Forkan Ahmed, and Dil Mohammad, 25, son of late Amir Hamza of Kutupalong Lambashia camp-1 in Ukhiya upazila of Cox’s Bazar.
A message sent by BGB Battalion-34 said a team of the paramilitary force took position in hilly Gorjonbunia Chakmapara under Ghumdhum union in the early hours on information that Yaba traders would bring a consignment of the drug from Myanmar.
At one stage, the BGB team challenged a group of 5-6 people.
However, they divided in two groups and opened fire on the BGB members forcing them to fire back in retaliation.
After the gun battle, two of the Yaba traders were found lying on the ground and taken to hospital where doctors declared them dead.
One lakh Yaba tablets, two guns and four cartridges were also recovered from the spot.
