A team of the Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) recovered 60 gold bars, worth around Tk 4.5 crore, from a catering service vehicle of US-Bangla Airlines at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on Tuesday morning.
It also detained seven people on suspension of their involvement in the gold smuggling.
The CIID team conducted a search at the vehicle after the boxes of food leftovers of passengers were loaded when a flight of the private airline landed at the airport from Dubai at 7am.
The team members found 60 gold bars in one of the boxes, said CIID Additional Director General Neazur Rahman Khan.
He suspected that employees of the US-Bangla catering service were involved in the incident.
They detained seven people for interrogation, Neazul said.
