A Dhaka court on Friday granted bail to Ron Haque Sikder, managing director of Sikder Group of Companies who was arrested upon his return from abroad, in a case filed on charges of torturing and shooting two top officials of Exim Bank Ltd on humanitarian grounds.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ashique Imam passed the order on a bond of Tk 5,000.
The court also fixed March 10 for the next hearing in the case.
Earlier in the morning, detectives arrested Ron Haque Sikder on his return from abroad.
A team of the Detective Branch (DB) of police picked him up at Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport in the capital around 10am after he returned home following the death of his father Zainul Haque Sikder, chairman of Sikder Group.
However, his brother Dipu Haque Sikder still remained absconding, said Additional Deputy Commissioner (DB, Gulshan) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police Golam Saqlain.
Exim Bank authorities filed the cases with Gulshan Police Station on May 19 last year.
As per the case statement, Ron and Dipu confined Exim Bank MD Muhammad Haider Ali Miah and Additional MD Muhammad Firoz Hossain to an apartment on May 7.
They also tried to shoot them to death. Later, they released them keeping their signatures on a blank paper.
