The second consignment of the Covid-19 vaccine is set to arrive in the country from India tonight (Monday night).
Beximco Pharmaceuticals Ltd, the local distributor of the Serum Institute of India, confirmed the matter.
Bangladesh signed a deal with the Serum Institute of India to procure 3 crore doses of vaccine developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca through Beximco.
The first consignment of 50 lakh doses arrived in the country on January 25 last.
Besides, India gave Bangladesh another 20 lakh doses as a gift.
A total of 2,082,877 people have received their first doses of Oxford-AstraZeneca (Covishield) vaccine in the country as of Saturday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the vaccination programme virtually on January 27 when 26 front-liner fighters received Covishield vaccine in Kurmitola General Hospital. Some 541 more received the vaccine in five hospitals in Dhaka the following day.
