At least five people died and three children remained missing as two boats sank in Rangamati’s Kaptai Lake on Friday.
Police sources said an engine-run boat carrying tourists capsized in the lake near Rangamati DC's Bungalow area when it was heading towards Sublang from Hanging Bridge area.
Soon after the incident, locals and fire fighters conducted a rescue drive and recovered the bodies of five tourists.
All the five deceased were workers of Chattogram’s Pacific Jeans Garment factory.
Meanwhile, three children remained missing as a boat carrying 53 ISKCON members sank in Kolar Depot area of the Karnaphuli River in Kaptai.
The three children were identified as Binoy (5), Tumpa Majumder (3) and Deblila (10).
The local administration launched a drive to rescue the missing kids.
Rangamati’s Additional Superintendent of Police Sufi Ullah said five bodies were recovered in two separate boat-capsize incidents.
He said the identities of dead could not be known immediately.
Shawkat Akbar, RMO of Rangamati Sadar Hospital, said five bodies were brought to their hospital following the boat capsize incidents.
He said one person who was rescued alive has been undergoing treatment at the hospital.
