A total of 1,878 police personnel have been infected with coronavirus in Bangladesh as of Tuesday while performing their duties during the pandemic.
Of them, 865 are from the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) alone, sources at Police Headquarters said on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, seven members of the law enforcement died of COVID-19, the sources said.
At present, 4,961 policemen are in quarantine while 1,159 are being treated at isolation units. Besides, 298 patients made full recovery, the sources said.
Members of Bangladesh Police, Armed Forces and Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) along with other agencies have been jointly working to ensure social distancing and law and order across the country.
Bangladesh on Monday reported highest 1,034 confirmed new coronavirus cases and 11 deaths to take the tallies to 15,691 and 239 respectively.
