The tally of coronavirus cases crossed the 30,000-mark in Bangladesh on Friday as the virus is spreading alarmingly across the country.
Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), in the daily health bulletin said 1,694 more people tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours.
The total number of coronavirus cases in the country now increased to 30,205 with the fresh ones, she said.
Bangladesh reported the first coronavirus case on March 8 last while the first date from the virus on March 18.
Meanwhile, 24 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours till Friday, taking the tally in the country to 432.
This is the highest daily surge in deaths from coronavirus in the country since first death was reported in the country. Earlier, the highest 22 deaths were recorded on Thursday.
Prof Nasima said 588 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 6,190.
She said 9,727 were tested in 47 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 223,841 samples have so far been tested in the country.
On Thursday, Bangladesh reported record 22 deaths from coronavirus and the highest 1,773 fresh cases.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have seen a rise around the world as over 1 lakh more reported in the last 24 hours till Friday morning to take the total to 5,194,106.
Besides, the global death toll from the coronavirus has stood at 334,616, according to Worldometer.
