Gono Forum president Dr Kamal Hossain has alleged that the government has failed to control the coronavirus infections in the country.
Dr Kamal Hossain and Gono Forum general secretary Reza Kibria in a joint statement on Tuesday also said though the WHO declared COVID-19 as a pandemic on March 11, the government announced general holidays in the last week of the month buying much time.
They accused the government of having failed to determine a national strategy to tackle the corona situation despite having much time.
They also said corona tests in the country is very low and people have no confidence on government’s information on COVID-19 infections and deaths.
The two leaders also said the late announcement of public holiday in a relaxed manner has put negative impacts on people’s lives and the government has failed to control the infections.
The Gono Forum top leaders said corona situation has deteriorated in the country only because of the government’s mismanagement.
Though lakhs of people have become unemployed, they alleged that only a small part of government aids reached the poor and vulnerable people due to corruption and inefficiency of the government.
They also said withdrawal the general holidays when the infection of virus has been spreading fast has created serious anxiety among people.
The Gono Forum leaders expressed concern that the situation is worsening due to lack of adequate testing and mismanagement in the health sector.
