Another policeman has died from coronavirus in Bangladesh, raising the total fatalities in the police force to 16.
Nirod Chandra Mondal, 52, who was posted as a stenographer at Pallabi zone of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), breathed his last at the Central Police Hospital in the capital on Tuesday noon.
With him, 16 members of Bangladesh Police have so far died from the virus while discharging their duties.
Nirod was admitted to the hospital after he tested positive for coronavirus. He died at the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital.
Hailing from Faridpur district, Nirod left behind wife, a daughter and a son.
His body was sent to his village home under police management. The funeral was conducted in presence of senior police officers of the district as per religious provisions.
A total of 5,333 policemen were infected with coronavirus across the country while performing duties as of Tuesday.
Of them, 2,059 have already made full recovery.
