Covid-19 cases keep surging in Bangladesh; 3,462 reported in 24 hours

Coronavirus cases continued to surge in Bangladesh as the health authorities registered 3,462 more infections in the last 24 hours till Wednesday to take the total to 122,660.

Besides, Covid-19 claimed the lives of 37 more people in the country during the period. With this, the death toll from the virus has stood at 1,582.

Of the new deceased, 28 are men while nine are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 2,031 more patients recovered from COVID-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 49,666.

Prof Nasima said 16,433 samples were tested in 66 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 663,444 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.07 percent, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 40.49 while the mortality rate is 1.29 percent.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh recorded 43 deaths from coronavirus and 3,412 cases.

Meanwhile, 479,816 people lost their lives to coronavirus around the world as of Wednesday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 9,354,860 people in different countries, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 3,833,221 patients, 3,775,312 are in mild condition while 57,909 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 5,041,823 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,424,168 and 123,473 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,151,479 cases and 52,771 deaths.
