Bangladesh registered 3,114 more coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours till Thursday, taking the confirmed cases in the country to 156,391.

Besides, total casualties in the country have risen to 1,968 with the deaths of 42 more Covid-19 patients during the period.

Of the deceased, 32 are men and 10 are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,606 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 68,048.

Prof Nasima said 14,650 samples were tested in 63 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 820,347 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.26 percent while the infection rate 19.13 against total tests carried out so far, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 43.51 while the mortality rate is 1.26 percent.

On Thursday, Bangladesh reported record 38 deaths from coronavirus and 4,019 cases.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the coronavirus has jumped to 524,088 globally as of Thursday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 10,985,656 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 4,320,741 patients, 4,262,608 are in mild condition while 58,133 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 6,140,827 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 2,837,189 and 131,485 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,501,353 cases and 61,990 deaths.
