Seven officials and employees of Regent Group have been placed on a five-day remand each in a case filed in in connection with issuing fake coronavirus test results and illegally realising money from people in the name of Covid-19 test and treatment.
A virtual Dhaka court passed the order after Md Alamgir Gazi, an inspector of Uttara West Police Station and also the investigation officer of the case, produced them before it with a seven-day remand prayer.
Metropolitan Magistrate Sadbir Yasir Ahsan Chowdhury, however, ordered sending a 17-year-old accused in the case to Tongi Children Correctional Centre turning down his bail prayer as the IO did not submit any remand prayer against him.
Earlier on Tuesday night, Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) filed the case against the authorities of Regent Hospital in the capital on charge of issuing fake COVID-19 test results and illegally taking money from patients in the name of coronavirus test and treatment.
Uttara West Police Station officer-in–charge (OC) Tapan Chandra Saha said a total of 17 officials of the hospital, including its chairman Md Shahed, have been made accused in the case.
The other accused include Ahsan Habib, 45, works in hospital’s admin, X-Ray Technician Hasan, 49, Health Technologist Hatim Ali, 25, Receptionist Kamrul Islam, 35, Rakibul Islam of Regent Groups’ Project Admin, Regent Group HR (Admin) Amit Anik, 33, Driver Abdus Salam, 25, Executive Officer Abdur Rashid Khan Jewel, 28, its Chairman Md Shahed, 43, Managing Director Masud Parvez, 40 and Hospital Staff Torikul Islam, 33, Abdur Rashid Khan, 29, Shimul Parvez, 25, Deepayan Basu, 32, and Mahbub, 38.
However, the names of the two other accused could not be ascertained.
The elite force has already arrested eight of the accused in the case, including its Managing Director (MD) Masud Parvez. But the chairman of the hospital, Md Shahed, and eight others went into hiding since Rab conducted two branches of the hospital.
Earlier, the head office of Regent Group and its two hospitals in the capital’s Uttara and Mirpur areas have been sealed off on charges of various allegations.
A mobile court of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) conducted a drive at the head office of Regent Group in the city’s Uttara area.
On Monday, the elite force raided Regent Hospital’s Uttara and Mirpur branches in the capital and sealed off those for providing fake Covid-19 test reports and embezzling huge money from people in the name of corona test and treatments.
Besides, the eight officials of the group were arrested.
