Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader has called upon people to avoid crowding and mass gatherings during the upcoming Eid-ul-Azha to prevent further spread of the coronavirus.
“All must work as sensible fighters to contain the spread of coronavirus during the upcoming Eid,” he said.
Quader, also the Awami League General Secretary, made the call while speaking at a virtual press conference from his official residence on Wednesday.
He said all places, including cattle markets, bus and launch terminals, train stations, ferry ghats, shopping malls and kitchen markets, will have to make safe zones by maintaining social distancing, wearing masks and following health guidelines.
The minister said everyone have to remain alert so that the joyous journey of Eid with family members does not turn into a tragic one.
The ruling party leader said some dishonest people are cheating people by providing false corona test reports and certificates and embezzling money in the name of treatment and plasma donation, adding that they have taken stern steps to stop such misdeeds and irregularities.
He lamented that a section of people is moving freely hiding their corona symptoms and infections, while some others are going abroad collecting negative certificates and getting identified as Covid patients at airports, denting the country’s image.
