Bangladesh Bank (BB) has instructed all the banks to freeze the accounts of Regent Group chairman Md Shahed alias Shahed Karim for the next 30 days.
The directive was issued on Thursday (July 9th) by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) of the central banks in a letter to the chief executives of all banks in the country, according a source at the BB.
The letter said all are instructed to freeze Regent Group Chairman Mohammad Shahed and all other bank accounts involved with him. “These bank accounts will be frozen for the next 30 days.”
Earlier on Wednesday (July 8, Bangladesh Bank sought information about his bank accounts.
Meanwhile, Rab has filed a case against Shahed for various irregularities, fraudulence, breach of contract with the government and giving false reports of corona test.
Police also imposed a restriction on his departure of the country in the interest of proper investigation of the case.
Police today sent a letter to the immigration department in this regard.
Earlier, a mobile court sealed off Regent Group head office and its two hospitals in Uttara and Mirpur following a drive by the elite force Rab.
Rab also filed a case against 17 persons, including Shahed, on charge of Covid-19 certificate forgery and illegally taking money from patients.
