Bangladesh reported 2,949 more coronavirus cases in a 24-hour period till Friday to take the confirmed infections in the country to 178,443.

Besides, total fatalities in the country jumped to 2,275 with 37 more people losing their battle against the deadly virus during the period.

Of the new deceased, 29 are men and eight are women. Among the total dead, 1,799 are men 476 are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said 1,862 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 86,406.

Prof Nasima said 13,488 samples were tested in 77 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 921,272 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.86 percent while the infection rate 19.43 against total tests carried out so far, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 48.42 while the mortality rate is 1.27 percent.

On Thursday, Bangladesh reported 41 deaths from coronavirus and 3,360 cases.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases have reached 12,389,859 around the world as of Friday morning.

Besides, the death toll from the virus has climbed to 557,405 globally, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 4,611,878 patients, 4,553,419 are in mild condition while 58,459 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 7,220,576 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 3,219,999 and 135,822 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 1,759,103 cases and 69,254 deaths.
