The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh breached the 178,000-mark while the death toll from the deadly virus mounted to 2,275 on Friday.
In a regular press briefing, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said 2,949 more coronavirus cases were detected during past 24 hours as of Friday.
She said the total number of coronavirus cases in the country now increased to, 178,443 with the fresh ones.
Prof Nasima said 13,488 samples were tested in 77 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 921,272 samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.86 percent while the infection rate 19.43 against total tests carried out so far, she said.
Besides, Prof Dr Nasima said 37 more people died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, climbing the death toll in the country to 2,275.
Of the new deceased, 29 are men and eight are women. Among the total dead, 1,799 are men 476 are women.
Chattogram saw the highest causalities with 17 deaths in the last 24 hours.
Besides, 12 died in Dhaka, two each in Rajshahi, Sylhet, and Rangpur and one each in Barishal and Mymensingh divisions during the same day.
She said 1,862 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 86,406.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 48.42 while the mortality rate is 1.27 percent.
On Thursday, Bangladesh reported 41 deaths from coronavirus and 3,360 cases.
