Bangladesh registered 2,666 more coronavirus cases in the past 24 hours till Sunday, bringing the total infections in the country to 183,795.

Besides, the death toll from the deadly virus has reached 2,352 after 47 more people lost their lives during the period.

Of the new deceased, 36 are men and 11 are women. Among the total dead, 1,860 are men and 492 are women.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the information in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.

She said record 5,580 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 93,614.

Prof Nasima said 11,059 samples were tested in 77 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 943,524 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 24.11 percent while the infection rate is 19.54 percent against total tests carried out so far, she said.

The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 50.80 while the mortality rate is 1.21 percent.

On Saturday, Bangladesh reported 30 deaths from coronavirus and 2,686 cases.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases continue to spike around the world reaching 12,842,039 as of Sunday morning.

Besides, the death toll from the virus has jumped to 567,649 globally, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 4,796,194 patients, 4,737,362 are in mild condition while 58,832 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 7,478,196 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 3,355,646 and 137,403 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 3,355,646 cases and 71,492 deaths.
