Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader on Thursday said the public transport will remain operational during upcoming Eid-ul-Azha.
However, the plying of heavy vehicles will remain suspended for three days before Eid, he said, adding that Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) will inform details in this regard through a notice.
Confusions arose over the plying of public transport during Eid as the Road Transport and Bridges Ministry earlier asked the BRTA to take steps to suspend their operation for eight days from five days before Eid day to three days after it.
However, State Minister for Shipping Khalid Mahmud on Wednesday described the decision as a misunderstanding, saying it would not be effective.
He had also said launches, buses and trains will run during the Eid holiday.
Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest festival of Muslims, will be celebrated in Bangladesh either on July 31 or August 1 subject to appearance of the Zilhajj moon.
