The number of confirmed coronavirus cases in Bangladesh breached the 196,000-mark while the death toll from the deadly virus mounted to 2,733 on Thursday.
In a regular press briefing, Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), said 2,733 more coronavirus cases were detected during past 24 hours as of Wednesday.
She said the total number of coronavirus cases in the country now increased to 196,323 with the fresh ones.
Prof Nasima said 12,889 samples were tested in 79 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 993,291samples have so far been tested in the country.
In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 21.20 percent while the infection rate is 19.76 percent against total tests carried out so far, she said.
Besides, Prof Dr Nasima said 39 more people died from coronavirus in the last 24 hours, climbing the death toll in the country to 2,496.
Nasima said 1,940 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 106,963.
The DGHS additional director general also said against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 54.48 while the mortality rate is 1.27 percent.
On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 33 deaths from coronavirus and 3,533 cases.
Meanwhile, coronavirus cases continued to leap across the world as 235,129 infections were recorded in the last 24 hours till 10am on Thursday.
In total, confirmed cases have reached 13,692,605, according to Worldometer.
Besides, the deadly virus has claimed the lives of 586,839 people, including 5,618, during the period.
Of the currently infected 5,068,459 patients, 5,008,841 are in mild condition while 59,618 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 8,037,307 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. Of them, 190,078 recovered in the last 24 hours.
