The Ministry of Health is not satisfied with the explanation given by Abul Kalam Azad, the Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).
According to the sources at the Health Ministry, he will be given a fresh letter seeking further explanation.
Earlier on Wednesday, the health DG the submitted his written explanations, over the agreement signed with Regent Hospital, to the Health Secretary Abdul Mannan.
In his explanation, Abul Kalam said the agreement with Regent Hospital was signed as per the verbal instructions of former Health Services Division Secretary Asadul Islam.
However, the former secretary denied it on Wednesday.
As the corona test and treatment scam got exposed, DG Kalam on July 11 claimed that they inked the deal with Regent Hospital following a directive of the Health Ministry’s higher authorities.
Irked by his comment, the ministry sought an explanation from him the following day issuing a show-cause notice.
On the last day of reply to the notice, Kalam himself went to the Health Secretary’s office and submitted his written explanation.
Meanwhile, Regent Group Chairman Shahed Karim was arrested by Rab from Satkhira with an illegal weapon Wednesday morning while he was trying to flee to India wearing a burqa.
He was arrested over various irregularities, fraudulence, breach of contract with the government and providing false corona test reports.
