Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium (SBNCS) in Mirpur reopens today (Saturday) to cricketers’ individual training.

“Cricketers can start training on Saturday. We’ve prepared a safe environment for them,” Debashis Chowdhry, the chief physician of BCB, had told the media last week.

“We are trying to figure out how many cricketers are joining in this personal training program. It will ease to plan the schedule. For now, cricketers can work on their fitness only, and we have prepared everything is needed for that,” he had added.

SBNCS hosted its last cricket activity on March 16 when a Dhaka Premier Division Cricket League match took place. Since then, the venue was fully locked due to the deadly outbreak of coronavirus.

It is uncertain when BCB can resume domestic cricket. However, the board is optimistic about restarting the season as soon as the pandemic situation gets better.

“We want to start our cricket season as soon as possible. But we can’t do that unless the coronavirus situation gets better. But for now, cricketers can start their physical training as we have prepared all SBNCS for that,” Nizam Uddin Chowdhry, the CEO of BCB told in a recent media interaction.

At least 14 international matches of Bangladesh have been postponed due to coronavirus including five Tests. All of these matches are slated to be rescheduled for future dates.
