The death toll from coronavirus in Bangladesh has shot to 544 with 22 more deaths reported in the past 24 hours till Wednesday.

Besides, 1,541 more coronavirus cases were recorded during the period to take the total to 38,292.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon. 

She said 346 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 7,925.

Prof Nasima said 8,015 samples were tested in 48 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 266,456 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Tuesday, Bangladesh reported 21 deaths from coronavirus and 1,166 cases.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has crossed 3.5 lakh to reach 352,225 as of Wednesday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 5,684,803 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 2,901,975 patients, 2,848,878 are in mild condition while 53,097 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 2,430,603 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

The US is the worst-hit country with highest deaths and coronavirus cases in the world -- 100,572 and 1,725,275 -- respectively.

Coronavirus is affecting over 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
