Bangladesh has reported over 2,000 coronavirus cases in a single day for the first time since the outbreak began in the country.
In the last 24 hours till Thursday, record 2,029 coronavirus cases were reported to take the total to 40,321.
Besides, the death toll from COVID-19 disease in the country has jumped to 559 with 15 more deaths during the period.

This is the highest daily surge in coronavirus cases in Bangladesh since the first three cases were reported on March 8. Previous highest 1,975 were reported on May 25.
Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon.
She said 500 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 8,425.
Prof Nasima said 9,310 samples were tested in 49 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 275,776 samples have so far been tested in the country.
On Wednesday, Bangladesh reported 22 deaths from coronavirus and 1,541 cases.
Meanwhile, although the global death toll from coronavirus is falling gradually, COVID-19 cases saw a significant rise in the last 24 hours till Thursday morning with over 1 lakh cases reported.
The fatalities around the world have reached 357,432, according to Worldometer.
Besides, it has so far infected 5,790,103 people in different countries.
Of the currently infected 2,935,053 patients, 2,882,079 are in mild condition while 52,974 are in serious or critical condition.
So far, 2,497,618 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
The US is the worst-hit country with highest deaths and coronavirus cases in the world -- 102,107 and 1,745,803 — respectively.
Coronavirus is affecting over 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
