Bangladesh recorded its highest-ever coronavirus cases at 1,873 in the last 24 hours till Saturday, taking the total to 32,078.

Besides, twenty more people died from COVID-19 in the country during the period to raise the death toll to 452.

This is the highest daily surge in coronavirus cases in the country since first three cases were reported on March 8. Previous highest 1,773 were recorded on Thursday.

Prof Dr Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), came up with the disclosure in the daily online health bulletin in the afternoon. 

She said 296 more patients recovered from Covid-19 disease in the last 24 hours, taking the number of people making recovery to 6,486.

Prof Nasima said highest 10,834 were tested in 47 labs across the country in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 234,675 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Friday, Bangladesh reported record 24 deaths from coronavirus and 1,694 cases.

Meanwhile, coronavirus cases around the world have crossed 53 lakh to stand at 5,304,364 as of Saturday morning.

Besides, the global death toll from the virus has reached 340,004, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 2,805,773 patients, 2,761,190 are in mild condition while 44,583 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 2,158,587 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.

Coronavirus is affecting over 213 countries and territories around the world and two international conveyances.

The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the coronavirus crisis a pandemic on March 11.
