Coronavirus cases surpass 49,000 in Bangladesh

The number of confirmed coronavirus cases passed 49,000 in Bangladesh on Monday, according to data provided by Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Prof Nasima Sultana, additional director general of the DGHS, said 2,381more people tested positive for coronavirus in the last 24 hours as of 2:30pm on Monday.

Speaking at a press briefing, she said the total number of coronavirus cases in the country now increased to 49,534 with the fresh ones.

Besides, 22 more deaths were reported in the last 24 hours, taking the tally in the country to 672.

Among the dead, 19 are men while three women.

Dhaka saw the highest causalities with 11 deaths in the last 24 hours. Besides, eight people died in Chattogram the same day.

The first three cases of coronavirus were reported in Bangladesh on March 8 while the first death was recorded on March 18. 

Prof Nasima said the highest 816 more patients recovered from COVID-19 disease in the last 24 hours. 
With the fresh ones, around 10,597 people have so far recovered from the virus.

 She said 11,439 samples were tested in 52 labs across the country during the period. With this, a total of 320,969 samples have so far been tested in the country.

On Sunday, Bangladesh reported 40 deaths from coronavirus and 2,545 cases.

Meanwhile, the global death toll from coronavirus has reached 373,960 as of Monday morning.

Besides, it has so far infected 6,266,888 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 3,045,400 patients, 2,991,993 are in mild condition while 53,407 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 2,847,528 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries.
