A Dhaka court has fixed January 19 for passing its orders on two defamation cases filed against former Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) Mayor Sayeed Khokon for making disparaging comments on incumbent mayor Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh.
The cases were filed with the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury on Monday.
Kazi Anisur Rahman lodged one of the cases while Advocate Md Sarwar Alam filed the other.
Earlier on Monday morning, Taposh said he will file a defamation case against former DSCC mayor Sayeed Khokon.
He made the remarks while talking to reporters while inspecting the work to remove waste from box culverts in different areas, including Kamalapur, TT Para, Sayedabad and Gopibagh.
The DSCC mayor also said the city corporation’s drive against corruption will continue. “Those who transacted money illegally are now making allegations of corruption.”
He also described Khokon’s comments against him as personal attack.
Earlier on Sunday, Taposh said Khokon’s remarks terming him corrupt and ineligible for the mayoral post were not authentic.
He also said it bears no importance to him as it is Khokon's personal view. "If someone says something out of personal vengeance, it would not be wise to give reply to it while holding a responsible post."
