Information Minister Dr Hasan Mahmud has said the government is sincerely working to ensure the best healthcare for BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia.
He said she has regularly been undergoing health checkups while the specialized doctors at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) Hospital are providing her the best treatment.
The mister made the remarks while talking to journalists after inaugurating a rally of Bangladesh Betar in the city’s Agargaon area.
He said the family members of Khaleda want her to be freed on parole, but BNP is yet to place any such demand.
“Even, BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir told reporters that their party was not aware of it.”
The minister also said Khaleda Zia has been kept at a specialized hospital like BSMMU, instead of prison, allowing her personal domestic help to stay with her there, setting a rare example not only in Bangladesh, but also in the sub-continent.
He said the health problems Khaleda has been suffering are chronic ones and aid she discharged the responsibilities of the prime minister for two times and the opposition leader for two times with those health problems.
Hasan also said the BNP chief remained active in politics despite her long-term physical problems, but her party is exaggerating over her illness only to confuse people.
