There is no respite from coronavirus for Bangladesh as it announced the detection of 2,617 more cases in the past 24 hours till Thursday, bringing the total of 269,115.

Besides, the death toll has reached 3,557 in the country after 44 more Covid-19 patients lost their battle against the deadly virus during the period.

Of the new deceased, 31 are men and 13 are women. Among the total dead, 2,813 or 79.08 percent are men while 744 or 20.92 are women.

The information was revealed through a press release of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) in the afternoon.

According to the press release, 1,782 more patients recovered from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours. With this, a total of 154,871 people have so far made recovery in the country.

During the period, 13,162 samples were tested in labs across the country. With this, a total of 1,315,901 samples have so far been tested in the country.

In comparison with the tests conducted in the last 24 hours, the infection rate is 19.88 percent while the infection rate 20.45 against total tests carried out so far.

Against the total number of detected cases, the recovery rate is 57.55 while the mortality rate is 1.32 percent.

On Wednesday, Bangladesh registered 42 deaths from coronavirus and 2,995 cases.

Meanwhile, global coronavirus cases have surged to 20,810,640 as of Thursday noon.

Besides, the deadly virus has so far taken the lives of 747,284 people around the world, according to Worldometer.

Of the currently infected 6,350,953 patients, 6,286,367 are in mild condition while 64,586 are in serious or critical condition.

So far, 13,712,403 people have made recovery from the disease in different countries. 

The US is the worst-hit country with highest cases and deaths in the world at 5,360,302 and 169,131 respectively while Brazil is in the 2nd position with 3,170,474 cases and 104,263 deaths and India reported 3rd highest 2,397,403 cases.
