The High Court on Tuesday granted bail to photojournalist Shafiqul Islam Kajol in a case filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar Police Station in the capital under the Digital Security Act.
The HC bench of Justice M Enayetur Rahim and Justice M Mostafizur Rahman passed the order following a bail petition.
On October 19 last, the bench issued a rule asking the authorities concerned to explain as to why Kajol should not be granted bail in the case.
MP from Magura-1 constituency Mohammad Shifuzzaman (Shekhor) filed the case against 32 people, including the photojournalist, on March 9 last.
Two more cases were filed under the same act with Hazaribagh and Kamrangirchar police stations on March 10 and 11 against Kajol.
Nearly two months after his disappearance, Kajol was arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) on May 2 last for intruding Bangladesh from India through Benapole border without any valid document.
On May 3, the photojournalist was granted bail in a case filed against him for ‘trespassing into Bangladesh from India.
However, he was sent to jail showing him arrested under Section 54 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.
On March 10, the journalist went missing after leaving his office in the capital’s Hatirpool area.
His family had filed a general diary with the Chawkbazar Police Station the following day over his disappearance.
