A suspected terrorist was killed in a reported gunfight with members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) in the city’s Pallabi area early Friday.

The deceased was identified as Mohsin, 35, alleged contract killer of ‘Shahadat Bahini’.

Senior Assistant Superintendent of Police of Rab-4 Sajedul Islam Sajal on Friday morning said a team of the elite force conducted a drive in Eastern Housing Area under Pallabi Police Station on information that a group of 4-5 terrorists was taking preparation to murder a renowned person at their hideout.

As the Rab members reached the area, criminals from a bush by the road opened fire on them, forcing them to fire back in self-defence which triggered a gun battle, he said.

Bullet-hit Mohsin was found lying inside the bush along with a pistol. Later, 1,100 Yaba tablets were recovered from a pocket of his pants.

He was taken to Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital where he died, the Rab official said, adding that later locals identified him as Mohsin who was the mastermind of 7-8 murders as well as killer, extortionist and drug trader.

He was a convicted fugitive in a number of murder cases while he had been facing arrest warrants in some others.
