Nowsheruzzaman, striker of the Swadhin Bangla Football Team, died of coronavirus on Monday night. He was 72.

He breathed his last at Ibn Sina Hospital, Dhanmondi around 9:30pm.

Nowsher was admitted to the hospital on September 7 and moved to the intensive care unit the following day following deterioration of his condition.

Later, he was put on life support.

Nowsher was a regular face of the national football team from 73 to 76.

Alongside football, he also played cricket. He opened the innings for Mohammedan for three years and played for Kalabagan and Victoria for eight years.

Nowsher won the Dhaka University Blue award for his contribution to sports.
